In the 1970’s and early 80’s on Teesside where I grew up, some areas
of old traditional industry were being demolished and redeveloped. The way
nature transformed the now exterior interiors, was poignant and strangely beautiful. I’d always loved the
raw elemental feel of the heavy industries I’d grown up with, and in the
early 1980s it inspired some of my work, which became increasingly textural
and abstracted, using collage, print, and found materials. |
