Selkie 2007 charcoal and wash on paper A1 Selkies are
mythical sea creatures, who are
able to come ashore and live in human form. They often fall in love and
marry, but eventually their
longing for the sea can overwhelm them. If they can find their sealskins and put
them on again, they can return as seals back to the waters. |

I’ve been working on the little figures so much that recently my 2D
work has been rather neglected! I did Selkie, and some embroideries, and I’m
making an elaborate frame for the Rockpool piece on the left. I want to try now to bridge between the small figures and my other
work perhaps by making the figures more expressive and evocative, maybe doing
more with the scenes and settings, playing with the mood and the decorative
qualities more. I’ve started some
things based on myths and fables, and characters from novels and
poems. |
