In the poem the knight-at-arms, is condemned to wander eternally in a desolate dream-like world. I love the mysterious atmosphere which leaves you wondering exactly what has happened between him and the entrancing fairy maiden. |

In his painting of 1926 Cowper captures the moment he falls asleep. I love her dress with the opulent design based
on opium poppies, papaver somniferum, whose name means “bringer of sleep”. |

My figures are twelfth-scale, so about 6 inches high. The base plate of the setting is about 8inches/20cm square. I made the armour from clay, and to simulate the pattern on her dress I painted
directly onto the fabric with black and gold fabric paints. The figures are
fixed due to the pose. |
