Smugglers |

|
Five Smugglers come ashore with chests and barrels of contraband. They
are keeping a wary eye out for the excise men. They are from the 1700s when
the high taxes in Britain encouraged ordinary folk, especially on the coasts, to try to
get around the law. |
|
I made these figures in early 2004, but it took me some time to find a
model boat the right sort of size to accommodate them. I finished off the
setting for the group in 2006. The central figure wears a frockcoat and bucket-boots, the others have
more modest sailor’s “slops”. Two have tricorne hats. I have made their shoes in clay
and painted on the striped
stockings. They are available singly or as a group of five figures, with or
without the boat! |
