from The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien |
|
…..there
he lay, a vast red-golden dragon...his huge tail coiled about the piles of
countless precious things, gold beyond measure, gems and jewels, silver and
red-stained in the ruddy light. His wings were folded like an immeasurable
bat, and his long pale belly was crusted with gems and fragments of gold from
lying long in his costly bed.Smaug was not willing to share his treasure with
Bilbo…“Well thief!” he cried…”I can smell you and hear your breath….” |
|
Smaug and Bilbo are built onto a base board 23x28cm, the pile of
treasure is about 16cm wide and high. Bilbo is 7.5cm tall and the dragon 35cm
long and about 20cm from floor to wingtip in this pose. They are all
one-of-a-kind, smaug is made of textured clay with wired and embroidered
netting and acetate wings, he is painted and glazed in artist’s acrylics in reds and gold. |
|
Bilbo has large and slightly
hairy feet and is wired and can be posed, he has linen trousers and a cotton
shirt, and real fine leather jerkin fastened with a tiny buckled belt. He holds the Ring which will help him escape from Smaug. Smaug and Bilbo are not fixed to the setting, the treasure is glued and fixed in this shape to the base. |
